A New Way to Connect Cloud-Based Monitoring Systems to the Cellular Network

8th Jul 2019

ASTON, Pa., July 8, 2019 – To ensure continuous monitoring of critical equipment and environmental conditions where an Ethernet connection is inaccessible, Sensaphone® has introduced an LTE Cellular Modem with Battery Backup for its Stratus EMS, Sentinel and Sentinel PRO cloud-based remote monitoring systems.

With the LTE Cellular Modem, users can operate a cloud-based Sensaphone system anywhere a cellular signal is available. Sensaphone offers modems that support AT&T, Verizon or Rogers cellular service as well as low-cost cellular plans.

The LTE Cellular Modem features a lockable, IP65-rated weatherproof housing that ensures operation when exposed to harsh outdoor environments or continuous moisture. The unit’s external antenna allows it to receive a cellular signal even in enclosed areas that otherwise might limit reception. Its power supply and battery backup can keep the modem active for up to eight hours during an electrical outage.

The Stratus EMS system is a cloud-based, rack-mounted monitoring system for data centers and computer rooms. It uses information from micro-controlled equipment to monitor the performance of devices like uninterruptible power supplies, net meters, protocol data units and HVAC systems. The Stratus EMS system reads the values over Modbus RTU/485 and Modbus TCP for alarming and data acquisition. It is ideal for use as a data center infrastructure management (DCIM) system for smaller computer rooms or as a redundant system to support DCIM in larger data centers.

The Sentinel remote monitoring system is cloud-based and provides 24/7 surveillance of up to 12 different environmental and equipment status conditions including temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, vibration, water detection, power failure and more.

The Sentinel PRO remote monitoring system, an extension of the Sentinel cloud-based system, includes an additional relay output and a Modbus master capability that enables the unit to monitor, deliver alarms and datalog input/output points from third-party Modbus sensors, transducers and programmable logic controllers (PLCs).

When these systems detect a sensor reading has moved out of the preset range, they send notification via phone call, text or email to designated personnel for fast corrective action. All three systems let users monitor real-time status, change settings and disable alarms right from the Sensaphone iPhone/Android app or sensaphone.net.
