Improve Irrigation Management With Sensaphone Soil Moisture Sensor
ASTON, Pa., October 8, 2024 – The Sensaphone Soil Moisture Sensor enables greenhouse operators, cannabis growing facility personnel, landscapers, horticulturists, agriculturalists, farmers, golf course managers and other commercial growers and grounds personnel to optimize irrigation management. By measuring the water content in soil and other growing media, the sensor provides real-time data to a Sensaphone remote monitoring system. When moisture levels deviate from the desired range, the system sends immediate notification to designated staff. These instant alerts help to prevent over- or under-watering, conserve water, promote healthy growth and boost crop yield and quality.
This soil moisture sensor works with most Sensaphone remote monitoring systems, offering robust alerting and data logging capabilities. It can also integrate with an irrigation controller to stop automatic watering cycles when the soil is sufficiently moist, helping to conserve water and reduce the leaching of fertilizers and chemicals into the ground.
The Sensaphone Soil Moisture Sensor measures volumetric water content (VWC) with high accuracy across various soil and soilless media. It functions effectively in temperatures ranging from -40 °F to 140 °F (-40 °C to 60 °C) and offers an accuracy of ±6% VWC with generic calibration. This accuracy improves when the sensor is specifically calibrated for the growing media it supports. The sensor comes pre-calibrated for use with mineral soils, potting soils and rockwool growing media.
